No, I don’t have a word rate.
And neither should you, (unless its for editorial).
I often get asked by clients about my word rate for copywriting.
I’ve never had one, and never will because copywriting is not about writing more, it’s about writing better.
A good copywriter makes every single word count, taking into account the tone of voice, persona, positioning and keyword strategy.
An iconic tagline of just 4 words (or less) can take weeks to perfect, whereas an editorial article of 1,000 words would only take a few hours.
Take Nike’s tagline: Just Do It.
It’s so simple, yet it inherently captures everything the brand stands for. That, right there, is what incredible copy is all about. Effortless, uncomplicated, and the kind of genius that will never ever come from a word rate mindset.
